Matt Simpkin – Freelance Illustrator
Matt Simpkin is a freelance illustrator and designer based in Essex. Specialising in illustration and character design and development, Matt can create unique and interesting characters to suit all projects and any type of media. He uses a combination of hand-drawn and computer aided elements to achieve the best possible results in a range of distinctive styles, which can be seen in his online portfolio.
Though now a successful freelance illustrator in Essex, Matt graduated from the University of Teesside back in in 2007 with a 2:1 in Computer Animation. His dissertation work “Dead Bear” was chosen to be part of The Digital City in 2007. Since graduating, Matt has worked as a freelance illustrator on a range of projects for various happy clients, demonstrating his clear proficiency for all aspects of character design, brand development work (including logo creation) and childrens illustration.
As a childrens illustrator of a professional standard, Matt is able to create quirky, well-developed character designs for both static media and animation projects. Like any great childrens illustrator, Matt is able to take an initial concept and bring it to life, drawing upon contemporary design technologies to enhance his sketches.
Alongside his childrens illustration, his portraits have been another successful and popular addition to his portfolio and have cemented his reputation as arguably the most distinctive freelance illustrator in Essex. Matt is able to capture the ‘je ne sais quoi’ of a character through his distinctive hand, using strong lines and a wide array of colours to create insightful snapshots of an extremely high standard. As well as character development and childrens illustration, Matt has dabbled in various kinds of design work, creating logos and flyers for businesses. He’s able to adapt his unique style to suit the branding requirements of any company (take a look at the fantastic examples found in Matt’s online gallery).
